Description:
Two work streams - one software and the other hardware development - join to form the final integrated work flow in the game's simulated project. As a player, you can change task priorities, expedite key items, or help other departments but you must obey the WIP limits!
You'll see how these rules drive behaviors that you never would have expected by analysis alone. The game lets you live the action and make the decisions. Participants track daily progress along each workstream using a Control Chart, a Cumulative Flow Diagram, and Financial Summary chart.
The effect of your choices such as increase queue sizes, reduce work-in-progress limits, expedite certain work – are seen graphically in the charts. This is a very engaging way to experience core lean ideas.
Format of the activity is:
30 minutes review of key lean concepts that will be exercised
30 minutes to describe game rules and objective
2.25 hours for 8 to 16 players
45 minutes for debrief of the activity
